Bermuda Blue Aztec Card freebie

This 20-22 count aida fabric was such a bright white that I never seemed to find the right project in which to use it. Then I joined Mary Corbet’s SF (http://stitchinfingers.ning.com/) and many of the members were dyeing their fabrics this way and that into interesting designs. That lead me to cutting the fabric into a fat quarter size piece, put used coffee grounds into a bowl of water, add crumpled up fabric and next morn I had this warm, beige brown fabric with a lovely run of darker design here and there.

So here is my first use of my coffee dyed fabric, I like the soft color look of the fabric and I’ve got to stitch the insert for another card using a few of my favorite stitches: ribbed spider web stitch and cross stitch.

Stitches utilized: Cross stitch, running stitch and ribbed spider web stitch.

The thread is Caron Wildflower 207 Bermuda Reef color.  I normally purchase my Caron threads from 123Stitch.com.

Fabric is a 22 count, coffee dyed Aida that I purchased many years ago on sale at a craft store.

The 5 x 7 inch tri-fold green card has 3 1/2 x 5 inch oval opening. The card was purchased on the 123stitch website.

I used double sided stitchery tape to secure the fabric onto the card.

Individual stitches: Note for the ribbed spider webs that the middle spokes are out one row further than the corner spokes (see photo). Note within the side ladder stitches, to give each of the middle long stitches a twisted look I weaved the needle over/under the bar stitch several times (see photo).
